Dagogo Diminas

Dagogo Diminas, a renowned film director and producer from Nigeria, is well-known for his exceptional makeup and special effects work in Nollywood films. He played a significant role in the development of the Nigerian film industry, which is now globally recognized for its high rate of film productions. Dagogo’s special effects art has earned him numerous awards and honors. In 2000, he relocated to South Africa, which he now refers to as his second home, and worked for over 15 years in the art departments of movies such as U-Carmen (Golden Bear 2005), Breathe Umphefumlo (Berlinale Special 2015), Wake of Death (Jean-Claude van Damme), and 10, 000 B.C. (Roland Emmerich).

In 2013, Dagogo directed and produced his first film, Stigma, which won him several awards, including the AMAA Award (2015), two ZAFAA Awards (2015), and three AMVCA nominations, including Best Film West Africa. The movie also earned him the Award of Merit (Social Justice) at the Accolade Global Film Competition (USA). Stigma was screened at numerous film festivals, was a box office hit (DSTV, Iroko), and was part of an African-wide campaign against the stigmatization of people living with HIV/AIDS.

In 2016, Dagogo Diminas collaborated with Nollywood star actress Hilda Dokubo to create the film ASAWANA (2017). The movie is about women’s empowerment in the Niger Delta and premiered at the Cardiff International Film Festival in Paris and screened at the Afro-American Festival in Cannes.

In 2022, Dagogo co-directed a TV series with South African Director Gerhard Mostert. Currently, he is working on a feature film/TV production.

Dagogo Diminas is a highly educated individual in the field of film and theater. He earned a degree in Theater Arts from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and further pursued his passion for film by studying Digital Film Productions at the SAE Institute Berlin, as well as Film Production at Middlesex University, United Kingdom. His extensive academic background also includes a Master’s in Directing Film/TV from Bournemouth University, United Kingdom.
